What Is A Texas Railroad Commissioner?

The Texas Railroad Commissioner is a political office with the people who are actually commissioners usually changing with every election. The agency itself, the Texas Railroad Commission, regulates oil and gas, pipelines, drilling and pipeline permits — basically anything to do with Texas’ lucrative energy industry. To run for election, you should be knowledgeable in these areas, as well as understand the issues important to the State of Texas.

If you want to be a Texas Railroad Commissioner, you must be able to commit to a six-year term, as that’s how long each commissioner holds the office.

There are three commissioners at any one time, and elections for commissioner are held every two years, with one commissioner running for election each time. More info: texas railroad commissioner
